My Art
Connection, Community & Place
Circle
This ancient organic symbol is integral to life cycles and is a constant reminder that I am part of something greater than myself. The circle embodies spiritual energy and provides me with sacred space to creatively explore the deeper meaning of life. The voice of the universe is spoken in circular language.
Circles underpin my thoughts, actions, my feelings, and my artistic expression. When creating within and around the circle, I experience a profound sense of wholeness, fluidity, and peace.
Earth
Mother Earth nurtures and provides all living things with a beautiful place to call home. It is painful and emotionally draining witnessing her abuse through on-going climate challenges.
The elements of our Mother (Nature, Water, Fire, Earth, Light, Darkness and Spirit) are intertwined within and around the symbol of the circle, in the eternal cycles of life. I feel compelled to express my concern for Mother Earth through my art production in the hope that my work serves as a form of positive activism for healing and wellness for our planet.
Ritual
Ritual is integral to my wellness, revitalising connection to my authentic self, all living things, the land, sea, sky and spirit. Mostly my intentional rituals are down by the river, or in the bush making ephemeral art.
One of my greatest joys is collecting objects from nature, reassembling them in the environment and leaving them for others to discover. On my daily walk along the river, I collect feathers and place them in the bark of trees, leaving a visible reminder that birds are the messengers between heaven and earth.
Participating in purposeful ritual is very grounding and helps me remember who I am, and what my soul purpose is. It also gives me permission to be free to explore, imagine, create and rejuvenate.
Sea
When I need to step back into wellness, clear my head and cleanse my soul, I head to the sea. Stepping into the salt water and going under is a ritual for remembering who I am and what my soul purpose is.
I also have a profound sense of connection to the sea from a long time ago, with the Celtics and the coracle as a source of inspiration for creating sculptural ‘dream boats’.
Sky
The great big night sky is rich with twinkling wonder and awe, the place of reverence, spirit, peace and mystery. The day sky expresses a myriad of moods and provides endless sources for imagination. Sky is alive and ever changing as it moves with the rhythm of the cosmos.
As the connection between heaven and earth, the symbol of the circle (moon, sun, planets and stars) is ever present. When experiencing and imagining with Sky I experience a profound sense of freedom and connection to the divine.
